Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is recruiting for a Patient Advocate to diplomatically facilitate solutions to concerns and unmet needs for the benefit of patients and families. The position serves as a patient advocate for those suffering from diseases or conditions offering suggestions and tactfully, effectively and successfully investigates, and resolves non-medical challenges which may arise during the course of treatment and/or hospital stays. In addition, the position also investigates potential patients’ rights violations, conducts hospital unit rounds to identify potential problems and intervenes as appropriate; conducts monthly grievance committee meetings responsible for reviewing all grievances and developing plans for improvement, as well as develops, interprets, and revises Patient Advocacy policies and procedures, and provides education to staff, managers and administrative staff.

The hospital houses a regional burn center serving four counties (San Bernardino, Riverside, Mono and Inyo), a comprehensive stroke center, level I trauma center and a freestanding in-patient behavioral health center. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, work history and education verification, as well as a job-related physical exam and drug screening.    
Work Schedule: Occasional weekend or evening availability is required.

Minimum Requirements

 

Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent completed college coursework in Behavioral/Social Science, Healthcare/Business Administration, or related field of study. Applicants who do not possess an Associate’s degree in one of the areas indicated must provide a list of completed college coursework or their application will be disqualified.

-AND-

Applicants must meet one (1) of the following options:

Option 1: Six (6) months of experience performing patient advocacy or patients’ rights duties in a healthcare environment conducting interviews, processing complaints, writing reports and providing solutions to complex problems.

Option 2: One (1) year of experience referring clients, providing counseling and case management services and developing treatment plans in a social service environment equivalent to a Social Worker II with the County of San Bernardino.

Option 3: Eighteen (18) months of experience interviewing clients to assess needs, assisting individuals in obtaining services, and explaining laws, rules, policies and procedures and program services to clients in a healthcare or social service environment. (General clerical experience is not qualifying under this option)
Option 4: Twenty-four (24) months of clerical experience in a healthcare environment which involved substantial public contact performing patient intake, registration or similar duties requiring obtaining and providing information.

Note: Social Worker Trainee experience is not considered qualifying.

 

Desired Qualifications

 

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work/Social Services, experience in Patient Advocacy and/or in Social Work, excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to improve the hospital patient experience. English/Spanish bilingual candidates are highly desirable.
