SUMMARY
As a member of the Morongo Basin Healthcare District (MBHD) team your mission is to improve the health and

management in fulfilling your mission.

In your role as Phlebotomist you will report to the Clinic Manager. Your responsibilities will include drawing
blood from patients, labeling each sample, and preparing for transportation to the lab.

DUTIES
• Performs venipuncture and capillary procedures in appropriate manner, providing a safe, patient aware
environment. Handles these with awareness of patient age population. Receives specimens in an accurate, timely
manner to ensure correct handling and processing.
• Is accurate in patient and specimen identification at all times. Is compliant with laboratory labeling policies.
• Is aware and compliant with specimen collection policies regarding STAT, Timed (Urgent), heparin and drug
protocols, routine and OP draws.
• Is aware of supplies for clerical and phlebotomy areas and notifies as per protocol. Receives stock items and
distributes them to the appropriate place with the laboratory.
• Prepares and triages specimens, utilizing a centrifuge proficiently and as directed and directs them to the laboratory
sections for analysis. Maintains specimen integrity, if necessary, until the specimen can be triage as a referral test or
present to the Laboratory section.
• Assists in care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment. Keeps OP draw area clean,
orderly and stocked with the necessary supplies. Keeps phlebotomy trays in clean, stocked order.
• Maintains required records, reports, and statistics as directed. Is accurate in these and other clerical support duties.
• Able to accurately retrieve, and report results out via phone, fax and releasing to patients per laboratory (district)
medical information release policies.
• Operates necessary computer systems(s) to perform job functions.
• Seeks advice and information when necessary. Knows limitations of knowledge and asks for help.
• Participates as a team member. Assists in related duties as requested.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

You may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. You will be required to travel within the service
area. You will regularly sit for long periods of time; spend extended time at a keyboard or telephone; and interface with
others effectively. You will be occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Previous phlebotomy experience preferred
• CPT 1 California State Certified
